Opaque Transparency or Smoke and Mirrors

Remember the promise of transparency that helped win the Presidency? All bills passing Congress would be posted for 5 days before signed. Seems the rules have changed. Apparently the pledge only applied to NON-emergency bills and everything is an emergency in the New Republic. The first bill signed into law the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was apparently an emergency. We had to pass the pork-laden stimulus bill before any of the Best-Congress-Money-Can-Buy could read it otherwise unemployment might reach the unacceptable 8% range though most of the provisions wouldn’t kick in for months or years. The Bums-Rush is also being applied to the nationalization of medicine though the provisions of this monstrosity conveniently won’t overwhelm us until after the next presidential election.
In a direct assault against even the possibility of transparency the Chicago trained attack machine in the West Wing (Chicago’s 51st Ward) decided they have the power to decide what constitutes news. For months they’ve refused to allow anyone on Fox. This started when Chris Wallace had the bad taste to fact-check several statements made by White House officials and then the inexcusably bad taste to mention the official statements didn’t line up with the facts. This was bad enough but Fox commentator Glenn Beck dared to expose Obama adviser Van Jones as a self-proclaimed communist and then air the Acorn prostitution sting the totally transparent Obama White House decided it was time to muzzle the only major news network not in the tank. The Obama White House declared war on Fox News.
Led by Chicago’s Dynamic Duo Rahm Emmanuel and David Axelrod Communications Director Anita Dunn was sent out to label Fox News a “wing of the Republican Party.” What does that rodeo-clown Beck go and do? Instead of taking his caning and beginning to act like the trained seals on the other networks he has the bad taste to point out that Anita Dunn says Mao Zedong is one of her favorite political philosophers. What self-respecting Fearless Leader in training could abide such disrespect? Mao wouldn’t. Castro wouldn’t. Even that little tin-pot Stalin-wannabe Chavez doesn’t put up with this kind of insolence. Snatching Defeat from the Jaws of Victory Again

Never since the mid 1970s when the Water Gate Congress insisted on abandoning our South Vietnamese allies after the war had been won have I seen defeat snatched from the jaws of victory in such a bold and decisive manner.
As I survey the scene in America today I’m beginning to wonder if we would be in any worse shape if we’d lost the Cold War. From sea to shining sea Americans watch as the once greatest industrial nation on earth board up our factories and ship our manufacturing capacity to other countries. It seems like every other day the last investigative journalist in America, Glenn Beck is exposing one more Marxist in President Obama’s inner circle. That big lovable fuzz-ball Rush Limbaugh is judged a racist based on manufactured quotes and lies repeated by the President’s trained peacock and the rest of the establishment media while America watches accusations of racism used to squash any criticism of Barak H*@%$*n Obama. Freedom of speech dissolves as we learn it’s profiling for some to mention the man’s middle name while at the same time school children are taught to memorize songs using his middle name extolling his Nobel sized accomplishments mmm mmm mmm.
Like Iran we’re nearing critical mass. With uninformed voters not knowing know who they’re voting for and uninformed politicians not knowing what they’re voting for does anyone wonder why America’s in trouble? It was bad when our elected representatives voted for bills they haven’t read now under the inspired leadership of San Francisco Nancy Pelosi and Dingy Harry Reid they’re voting for bills they haven’t written yet. In their infinite wisdom they’ve figured out how to score a bill evaluating its impact on our budget before the official language meets the paper, now that’s economy of effort. Continue reading →

If it Wasn’t so Sad it Would be Funny

Lately the news reminds me of Monty Python. I keep waiting for President Obama to appoint a Czar of Silly Walks or Reverend Wright to resurface and declare piously, “Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!” If the situation wasn’t so serious I couldn’t take it seriously.
I mean seriously, Kevin Jennings, President Obama’s Assistant Deputy Secretary of the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools at the Department of Education failed to report a case of statutory rape involving a male sophomore who told him he was having sex with an older man. It doesn’t end there. Mr. Jennings is also on record as praising Harry Hay of the North American Association for Man-Boy Love Association (NAMBLA), which agitates for the legalization of sexual abuse of young boys by older men. Apparently not wanting to leave people with too little to uncover to unmask his agenda Secretary Jennings also penned the forward to a book some might find surprising for an educational administrator to promote entitled, Queering Elementary Education.
I keep waiting for ex-sportscaster Keith Olbermann or Democratic Party Spokesman Chris Mathews to say, “wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more, say no more” when they deliver such classic lines as, “President Obama has appointed Mark Lloyd as the Chief Diversity Officer at the FCC” with a straight-face. Colbert and Stewart had better watch out or MSNBC will win the sweeps as the funniest thing on TV. Officer Lloyd left his perch at the Center For American Progress funded by the likes of George Soros where he co-authored a report entitled “The Structural Imbalance of Political Talk Radio” which offered this chilling bit of advice, “This analysis suggests that any effort to encourage more responsive and balanced radio programming will first require steps to increase localism and diversify radio station ownership to better meet local and community needs.” Continue reading →

The Good the Bad and the Ugly

Believing in volunteerism and trying to help make my local community a place where neighbors know each other, a place where people gather to share common experiences and where good clean fun is part of life. Recently I devoted many hours to what I will call my local MegaFest.
Over the last seven months MegaFest rose from a cloud bank on the horizon to a tsunami crashing through the last few weeks of reality. I’ve seen the Good, the Bad and the Ugly in our local community and having walked through the blast, survived the storm to now sit contented by the fire I can honestly say I was in charge of the feats of strength.
Looming like a personal challenge at the entrance to MegaFest the imposing 18-foot old timey striker was where I watched the magic work. “Ring the Bell! Ring the Bell! The girls love it when you ring the bell!” Give me a crowd, something to hawk and out pops the carnie in me. Continue reading →
